Interior design for an apartment in a new residential development in Wrocław’s Karłowice district, directly adjacent to the Neo-Gothic former Ursuline convent, later used, among other functions, as a hospital and now converted into a hotel.
The historical context did not become a pretext for styling the new apartment as a period interior. The most direct reference appears in the flooring of the entrance hall and kitchen area: a mosaic of pale octagons with small square inserts recalls the original floors preserved in the older buildings of the complex. Beyond it, the geometric rhythm gives way to oak parquet laid in a herringbone pattern.
The classical order of panelled doors, mouldings and subtly profiled bespoke joinery is combined with contemporary furniture in simpler, softer forms. Warm off-whites, blues and muted greens create a light palette, while botanical motifs recur in wall panels and wallpapers throughout the apartment. The project draws on the memory of a specific place, translating it into the language of a contemporary home rather than attempting to recreate a history the new building itself does not possess.
