About

Preserving History, Designing for the Future

At Szawrot Design, we specialise in bringing historic interiors to life, transforming architecturally significant spaces into homes and environments that feel both timeless and relevant. From heritage estates to period townhouses, our designs honour the soul of each space while seamlessly adapting it to modern living.

Each project begins with an in-depth exploration of its history—uncovering its past, understanding its architecture, and reading the logic of the building itself. By carefully balancing tradition and innovation, we use authentic materials and artisanal techniques to create spaces that are not only visually striking but also enduring in both quality and meaning.

We work with homes and apartments where the existing architectural fabric—proportions, details, materials and the story of the building—is a starting point, not a background. Our focus is not on decoration, but on continuity: formal, functional and material.

Our values

  • Respect for Heritage & Architectural Integrity – we meticulously research every site, ensuring that its unique history and character are preserved and celebrated
  • Authenticity & Master Craftsmanship – by collaborating with skilled artisans and using time-honoured techniques, we create designs that are deeply personal and rich in craftsmanship
  • Sustainable, Timeless Design – we embrace eco-conscious solutions and sustainable materials, ensuring that our interiors remain elegant and environmentally responsible for generations to come
  • Expert Collaboration & Fine Detailing – we work alongside conservators, historians, and master craftsmen to achieve a seamless blend of historical authenticity and modern refinement
  • Harmony Between Past & Present – no detail is overlooked; from architectural structure to hand-finished elements, our interiors are designed with coherence, purpose and individuality

Studio founder

Szawrot Design is led by Dr. Elżbieta Szabat-Wywrot, an expert whose work merges design, heritage conservation and historical scholarship. Her approach bridges academic research with hands-on design practice, offering a specialised path for the restoration and transformation of architectural interiors.

She holds degrees in Interior Architecture from the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź and Interdisciplinary Humanities from the University of Warsaw, where she served as an assistant professor and researcher. Her dedication to heritage preservation led her to pursue postgraduate studies in Wood Conservation at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences and Historic Architecture Conservation at Nicolaus Copernicus University.

This fusion of artistic training, historical knowledge and technical precision defines the studio’s work—preserving the integrity of historic spaces while shaping elegant, functional interiors suited to contemporary life.
