The living-area design for this early-twentieth-century villa doesn’t recreate a single period. We paired a Victorian cast-iron fireplace surround, bentwood chairs with caning and small side tables with soft, rounded seating and contemporary, graphic lighting. Dark profiles tie together a palette of off-whites, warm wood, muted terracotta and grey.
In the kitchen, veneered cabinetry forms a backdrop for pale stone and the monolithic form of the extractor hood. The project’s defining motif is a bespoke floor of tiny mosaic tesserae, inspired by pre-war mosaics. It marks out the kitchen zone and ties it to the parquet like a woven rug. The whole doesn’t reconstruct any particular era — it creates a contemporary interior that remembers the age of the house without turning it into period decoration.
